Social Media for Professional Newtorking
Posted on | January 28, 2010 | 3 Comments
Internet today is undoubtedly the strongest medium to connect worldwide, explore new ventures, career possibilities and grow your industry expertise by participation. Definitely, every professional who has access to internet along with many available social platforms for connecting to peers, should be part of at least one professional networking site in today’s arena.
There are many platforms available for professional & business networking, some of them are listed below:
Yorz
Ecademy
Ryze
Xing
LinkedIn
The one I find most appropriate and has a balanced mix of professional & businesses is LinkedIn.
LinkedIn allows you to have your complete profile listed for others in the platform to know more about you.
The way it works is, members create their own niche groups and like minded professionals join and participate in the thread. Such discussions not only adds to your industry knowledge but also opens up your understanding on what and how professionals from various geography and background think about the topic.
You as a member can also create your own group, what is important is to get other members participate in the discussion.
Look for your past and present colleagues, sent them invite to add you in their network. This will be your first step to start growing your connections.
While participation, do not hesitate to put your point of view and request members you get inspired with to add you in their connections, allowing you to get real time updates on their activities in the platform.
Something that can strongly complement and lift your overall social media experience is to register yourself in twitter, start twitting and connect your linkedin account with your twitter account. It is less time consuming to tweet then to participate in various discussions. Such integration keeps your page updated regularly.
One thing that works strongly in the social media platform is regular participation and updates.
An icing in the cake would be to have your own personalized blog and also integrating your blog with your twitter and linkedin accounts.
Use your blog platform to share what you think, use twitter to write quick notes and use linkedin to learn from the industry by active reading and participation.
There is no end to what more can be done specifically in the social media space.
Based on the understanding, believe someone who is always open to share by blogging, tweets short notes and participate in industry discussion, will be building a strong presence and industry expertise with time.
Online space is ever changing, and what is great about this space is there is always scope to learn, know and share..

Regular updates keep Social Network alive
Posted on | January 17, 2010 | 1 Comment
Isn’t that true for any news portal, something everyone loves to read online. Imagine, a information sharing platform (news site) stops updating news, for how long will you continue visiting the portal. Imagine, a friend of yours or say a colleague, everything you cross paths, they carry the same story. What will you do? Stop visiting and look for alternative options.
Similar is your social networking page. If you are not a regular participant, then you will lose your fans, followings, friends attention. One of the ways to do this is integrate them together and continue updating one of them. Like for example, say, you have registered in linkedin, facebook, orkut, myspace and twitter.
Integrate each of your account with twitter and wherever a application is available with others as well.
Now, if you are using firefox browzer, there is a add-on available in Firefox “echofon”. Install it, and activate your twitter account. Now, everytime you read something interesting, just tweet and all of your social platforms will get updated automatically.
It is important to be active to live a social life, isn’t it!

Internet teaches you – HELP YOURSELF
Posted on | December 27, 2009 | 2 Comments
You may be wondering where did I get to see internet showcasing the board – HELP YOURSELF..
So, the story goes like this. Last Sunday, I purchased a new laptop for my DAD, ASER ASPIRE 4736Z.
Got delivery the next day, came home and first thing I did was tried connecting internet using the wifi MTNL broadband connection I have at home. Like I did not expect, life was not easy. Continuously trying for next 4 days, with various attempt connecting to MTNL helpline and assistance from friends did not work. Finally after a friend told me that this is due to the operating system, I reinstalled everything and again tried, but in vain. THe support guy from MTNL visited my place and after various attempts told me to get assistance from the dealer I purchased the laptop since there is some issues with the driver.
I visited this dealer again and he fixed it in 30 mins. I came back happy and within another 15 mins realized that the try was temporary. However I somehow got to understand that this is to do with the driver and not the hardware. I started reading whatever notes were available online and started downloading myself the WLAN driver from various locations using the other machine I had. Finally it seems the problem is resolved.
Am able to connect to internet. What was most frustrating for the last 5 days was that even after being a online marketer, someone who says that I can promote anything and anywhere online, am stuck for assistance from others. Why on earth I need assistance from so called domain experts when I have a whole community online to help me?
Again it reestablishes an old saying “Where there is a will, there is a way”
Cheers..

Everyone is going online & more towards social media
Posted on | December 18, 2009 | 1 Comment
Last evening, while traveling in the train back home, I heard 2 separate groups on college going guys. One group was talking about the levels they have crossed in online games and how they are enjoying every bit of it. Second group was discussing about the happenings in their social groups in the online space.
These guys are the future spenders that advertisers will start targeting starting 4 years from now. I recollected a similar incident around 5 years ago when students like these used to talk about how they could find relevant information using a search engine.
Today’s generation is going back to how things used to happen in old days, that is reviews from others. The only change is that earlier it used to be limited to your physical reach, and now with internet you are all over the place.
All of use use internet for communication, business, entertainment and social networking.
Today, there was an article in the newspaper that UK is planning to scrap the cheque clearing system since most of their banking customers now either use online banking or Debit / Credit Cards
One out of every 5 American who is online goes is registered with Twitter
One third of online Americans use social media for health
We all know these countries set the trends in the online space. We all have enough data points on how many users are active in social networking platforms and what is the time they spent in social media.
This shift has forced marketers to take social networking platforms more seriously and have made their strong presence in this space. All news sites are active in Twitter like platforms. All top brands have their own groups in social platforms.
Internet became a big boom lot of credit goes to the search engines. They brought all the information in the world into your computer. Now, users are not just looking for information online, they want answers..
Definitely, social media will soon take over from search platforms as the key player for traffic generation..
