Hi, I was down with fever, resting the whole day. Late evening thought of reading something and picked this magazine Tehelka. Still remember, outside a mall, about 1 and half year ago, they had a table promoting the magazine subscription and I contributed with 1 yr payment. Honestly, never read a single copy. And, after 1 yr, they called up to renew. I thought, enough of supporting these people, since I am not reading their magazine at all, no point in renewal. Thoughts melted after the caller requested, “Sir, thoda aur support kar dejeye na”. Said to myself, 300-400 hundred mein kya ho jayega. Lets continue. Today after reading the magazine after about receiving 70+ copies, realized, man, these people write so well. Initially feel like a fun in a masala hindi movie, but after going to their website, found homepage Google pagerank of 6, and no third party ad on their website. Tried surfing through various navigation options and still no 3rd party ad property.
So guys, if you are interested in experiencing some true journalism, do visit their website http://www.tehelka.com
Am writing this because every newspaper I read, every news channel I watch, seems influenced to promote either a story or just add more masala and increase the TRP for more advertisements. Clearly there is scarcity of honesty to the profession and the reason they would say is, “honesty cannot fill the stomach” only TRP can and listeners are not ready to face the truth. They watch television, read newspapers for entertainment. Is that true, do we watch television news and read newspapers for entertainment?
Seems correct, that is the reason why we never boycott the medium, just keep changing the flavors.

You will think, this blog was supposed to be something to do with online marketing and the article is just about anything. Hey, somewhere down the line, internet marketing is all about TRP, how many people visit your website, how popular is your brand in the online space. How many of you said no to an offer just because the domain promotion would have meant compromising on your principle values. Oh, my apologies, let me phrase it like this, how many of my fellow internet marketing professionals ever think about principles before taking interest in a opening?

Friends, internet is currently the 3rd strongest medium to influence minds, and, with the pace at which we are growing, days are not far away when internet will become the strongest medium of influence. So, as said in one of my favorite movie “With great powers come great responsibility”

Remember this and also remember “You always Reap what You Sow”..

Cheers
