So, here is a discussion I am opening up and my question is:
Is Google Adsense a must for new portals?
To start the discussions, let me share my initial thoughts on the same. Yes, for all new portals where ad-click revenues will be playing a +10% contribution in the overall revenues, the simple and smartest way to reach out to potential advertisers to start with will be Google Adsense. It just takes away your setting up of a Ad Sales team and also allows you to focus and identify the sweet spots for ad-placements.
Review your page click through rates, change ad-positions, look and feel. It allows you to do all sorts of experiments and once you find yourself well verse with having all the right spots identified and working well, you can slowly open up some of your ad-spaces and try out various other resources for increasing your page CPM.
The advantages you have to start with Adsense are, you relieve yourself with the relevance of ads coming on a particular page, since Adsense takes care of it. Something for a start up becomes very critical else can directly hit your user experience and the creditability of your website.
Am not trying to propagate Adsense, this post is with reference to every publisher in the industry who has with hard work acquired visitor loyalty, has millions of page views and is struggling to earn from it. If we intend to do our homework right in the very beginning, it is all about optimizing the experience further when it is at a mature level.
