Internet Marketing News- Digital Marketing Insights

Google, AdMob, Rupert Murdoch, Newscorp and more..

Posted on | November 10, 2009 | No Comments

There are many news coming out everyday, I just got interested in 2 of them, co-incidently both of them is associated with Google.

Google acquires AdMob, this to me has many facets.

First, Google is cash rich and no point in having the money lying ideal in the bank, rather lets grow vertically
Second, Google’s desperation to retain its dominance in the digital space (online and mobile) has to match the growing market and competition
Third and most interesting, even today +92% of Google revenues come from text ad clicks on their result pages, means, Google is still struggling to add more concrete revenue streams into its kitty

That was the first news, second may look stupid however, this can be the start of a new journey into the online space. Rupert Murdoch, chairman and managing director of News Corporation (Newscorp.com), one of the leading news makers in the online space, has hinted of blocking Google from indexing their pages. What does it mean to them, to online visitors and more importantly to Google
For News Corp, it will mean a cut in the traffic that they enjoyed over the years coming from Google Search Result pages
For visitors, any new surfer looking for news bites will not reach News corps portals unless a new gateway is evolved
For Google, over the cover, it does not make any difference. However, one must know why and how Google earns their revenues. In my first part of this post, I did say that +92% of Google revenues come from search result pages. Why? because surfers are able to find relevant options through Google, again because Google has all of them spidered. Google has huge..huge database, all generated by websites like yours and mine. So if, publishers start blocking Google to spider their pages or sue them for spidering their pages without permission or start charging Google for spidering their pages, can mean what for Google???

Well..well..well..Google was a revolution in the Internet world and this step can also be a start of a new trend..you never know..

Cheers
