Everyone is going online & more towards social media

Posted on | December 18, 2009 | 1 Comment

Last evening, while traveling in the train back home, I heard 2 separate groups on college going guys. One group was talking about the levels they have crossed in online games and how they are enjoying every bit of it. Second group was discussing about the happenings in their social groups in the online space.
These guys are the future spenders that advertisers will start targeting starting 4 years from now. I recollected a similar incident around 5 years ago when students like these used to talk about how they could find relevant information using a search engine.

Today’s generation is going back to how things used to happen in old days, that is reviews from others. The only change is that earlier it used to be limited to your physical reach, and now with internet you are all over the place.

All of use use internet for communication, business, entertainment and social networking.

Today, there was an article in the newspaper that UK is planning to scrap the cheque clearing system since most of their banking customers now either use online banking or Debit / Credit Cards
One out of every 5 American who is online goes is registered with Twitter
One third of online Americans use social media for health

We all know these countries set the trends in the online space. We all have enough data points on how many users are active in social networking platforms and what is the time they spent in social media.
This shift has forced marketers to take social networking platforms more seriously and have made their strong presence in this space. All news sites are active in Twitter like platforms. All top brands have their own groups in social platforms.

Internet became a big boom lot of credit goes to the search engines. They brought all the information in the world into your computer. Now, users are not just looking for information online, they want answers..

Definitely, social media will soon take over from search platforms as the key player for traffic generation..

Cheers

Brinda Karat, a CPI-M leader against Google India

Posted on | December 7, 2009 | No Comments

Prenatal sex determination tests are illegal in India. Anyone who advertises for the same and the one who displays such advertisements in India will also be considered doing an illegal activity in India.
Does that mean if you purchase a newspaper in India, could be any, even a copy from a Thailand local newspaper, if carrying any such advertisement, the seller here can be prosecuted?
If that is true and is effectively covered within the law, then the demand of Brinda Karat, a CPI-M leader against Google India, holds strong ground. Brinda has allegedly Google for hosting advertisements about clinics doing prenatal sex determination tests that are in violation of laws.
If a case gets registered against Google India, it would be interesting to see the court judgment here, since it will not only reflect the seriousness of the law makers but also determine the freedom in the online space available to Indians..

Compare insurance products before making a decision

Posted on | November 24, 2009 | No Comments

So, tax season is coming closer as we move towards March-10. Soon, all of us will start receiving mails from the HR for declaration of savings and the first thing we will start looking for is a suitable insurance plan, since that’s the easiest decisions to be taken for saving tax.
We save for the future and we say we are net savvy. How can then we do not take our investment plans seriously and spend some time investigating further on what is most suitable for me, instead of listening to the colleague sitting in next cubical or an insurance / investment adviser next door. Guys, insurance is not that complex a product to know and when we plan to even buy a pair of shoes, we tend to hang around many stores to learn where can I get the best deals. www.apnapaisa.com is one such platform where you not only can learn about various insurance offerings ranging from ULIP, term ,child, retirement, health and money-back plans but also using their network request more information from as many companies as you want. Lets not make it an every year habit and invest some time to make sure your hard earned money earns more for you as well.
The fun part is, they have recently launched mobile phone comparators and mobile tariff plan comparators as well. So while you try shopping for your insurance / investment plans, you can as well compare various mobile phones and do not forget to use their post-paid plan comparator. From December 31st, as per TRAI directive, in all metros of India, users will be allowed to retain their mobile numbers and switch the service provider. So, it is good time to start knowing more about various mobile plans in your city..

Get Paid for generating news – New wave starting to take off

Posted on | November 23, 2009 | No Comments

So, if you are a bulk content generator and presume that these search engines take the maximum pie of advertisers just by rendering your indexed content in their search result pages and just keep on growing, here is a ray of light.
If sources and news flashing on mashable.com is in the right directions, soon Search Engines may start paying you for generating news.
Being from the online space and after seeing both sides of the coin, publisher and advertiser, I strongly believe, it is only that search engines that are growing the way internet is growing, rest everyone is just struggling to survive. Isn’t this amazing, you generate content and I showcase your content based on my algos and you keep assuming that you will earn free traffic from me. I have a platform where everyone comes, have a application to capture, store and render options, well I do not generate content, I just display them, however since I display millions of them like yours, I earn the max share of online share, and, poor you, earn from whatever you get from me after I am done..

I know, this sounds harsh, lets face it, this is another side of the coin we all look at, the ugly side of the vast online space..

Strongly believe, if I am growing by rendering your content, you should have a share of the growth..
