Top 10 portals (Web Platforms) most visited from India

Posted on | October 20, 2009 | 5 Comments

According to the latest data for August 2009, that I came across with, Google sites continue to be the most visited platform by Indian visitors followed by Yahoo. Below is the list of the 10 most visited online platforms from India:

  1. Google Sites
  2. Yahoo! Sites
  3. Microsoft Sites
  4. Rediff.com India Ltd
  5. Wikimedia Foundation Sites
  6. FACEBOOK.COM
  7. Ask Network
  8. Times Internet Limited
  9. AOL LLC
  10. Network 18

Some interesting observations:

  • 3 numbers worth attention, Times Internet Ltd has moved from No.9 in July to No.8 in August. Google improved on its dominance in terms of unique visitors against Yahoo compared to what it was in July. Yahoo in turn has improved on its total reach in August
  • Blogger.com continues to be the most preffered blogging platform and Orkut for social networking in the month of August as well
  • Yahoo messenger is the most preffered chat application, almost double to Google talk users
  • Yahoo Groups is again has more than double the number of users Google Group has
  • Do not have exact bifurcation for August, however ever in mail service, Yahoo seems to have more visits than what Google shows
  • MSN Bing is clearly growing in India and definitely Jan-10 stats can see a trend change in search industry with Bing tie with Yahoo rolling out

Are Search Engine advertising platforms like classifieds of Newspaper?

Posted on | October 14, 2009 | 4 Comments

This post is in lines with one of the discussions I initiated in one of my groups at linkedin.

My point is, What we see as sponsored results on search result pages of search engines are very much like classified text advertising on newspapers. That is how traditional advertising must have started off, which eventually graduated into television audio visual advertising.

When do you think will the same happen online?

We all are excited with the news that in UK, for the first half of 2009, Internet is the leading platform for advertising spends. However the fact associated with this is also that, more than 70% of online advertising happen of search result pages of search engines.
My view is that, we are still another 2 years away for online advertisers and publishers to graduate to the next level.

Yes, internet is still evolving across the world and whatever milestones acheived in terms of advertising spends, is mainly domainted by search engines.

Does this mean that efforts of all webmasters across the globe is currently encashed by serach engines and online publishers are still waiting for their true share of revenues.

Am leaving this post here for all my visitors to share their views

Cheers

Internet Advertising spends crossed TV spends in UK

Posted on | October 13, 2009 | 1 Comment

Yes, this is true if we believe the latest reports flashing across newswires online. For Internet Marketers definately on top of the funnel, this is great motivation. More money changing hands in the industry, better are future prospects for quality marketers. Something that we may identify when we dig further into the fine points of where did the spends happen within online mediums and in what circumstances.

Remember we are refering to 1st half of 2009, the world, even UK is struggling from global economic crises. Definately during these times of recession, the first cost cuttings happen towards most expensive medium, i.e. TV. Second, the ratio at which online advertising spends were growing earlier, did not happen the same way this year half. Third, majority of the online spends were towards search marketing, of which maximum pie went to Google.

I do not know why, but, I seem to have a strong alergy towards Google. Anyone who dominates the industry trends is a danger towards the future growth in some way or the other. And, having known the fact that Google captures alot of user data, in it self, for me is invasion into privacy. An un-authorised invasion..

It is only time that can prove this notion right or wrong, however lets not take away the achievement of UK’s Online Advertsing industry..

3 cheers..

Is Twitter selling user data?

Posted on | October 9, 2009 | No Comments

Yes, the question currently in my mind is “Is Twitter selling user data”.
If we believe on the latest news published on businessinsider, then definitely this throws up a bigger threat to the online audience. For me, and also believe for many other online twitters, platforms like these are very private, may call this personal space to connect with the ones we want to.

Having said that, means, we tend to say a lot more in this space then what we might be usually doing elsewhere in our lives.

How ethical will it be for a platform that first communicates that this is your space and then opens up everything for other to review and decide how can I be of use to increase their company’s profit.

Would not like to say more on this, since it is very dis-appointing..know there is a lot of dirt everywhere in the online space, however it hurts the most only when you are directly subjected to it..

Is display advertising dying on internet?

Posted on | October 2, 2009 | No Comments

Well, that is the question in my mind after reading this press release. Stats published in this are comparison percentage of online  display ad-clickers in Mar-09 verses what it was in July-07 in US. So, if you and I believe in the report then definitely in almost 2 years of time it has dropped to half of what it was in July-07. Internet marketers believed that there is a certain level of banner blindness, however this news of it increasing at this speed will be a very disappointing news for 3 out of 4 types of advertisers. I mean advertisers who spends online for getting more traffic, generating leads and for sale will have to be more innovative to grab attention. Clearly internet is maturing. You cannot just grab attention with one senses (eyes).

Hey, what do you think, will gadget ads find an increasing market share. definately for all the online advertisers other than those whose motive is branding, will need to think and think hard. It will now be not easy to pull someone from another website to yours.

And, for all the great minds who think internet is a powerful medium for their brand promotions, life is even better with increasing number of internet users and the time they are online is as well increasing.

Cheers
