Am working for an equity research firm and there is going to be a websummit around Outlook 2011 from the srtock and commodity market perspective. Thought, let me as well list down few developments in the internet space that I foresee for 2011. So here I go:

1) Facebook will increase its dominance as most visited site
2) Facebook’s revenues will boost +2 fold
3) Google will struggle to find an alternative stable revenue medium other than adwords
4) Twitter’s roll in news media will increase
5) Ctr for tweets and facebook links will increase on search platforms
6) Bing will come up with more user friendly features in its search results
7) Bing search market share will increase big time
8) Google will face 3 fold problems, loosing share to bing, increasing dominance and ad spends on facebook and more searches happening on twitter
9) Overall internet spending will increase to at-least 140% outside of US and UK
10) Brand advertisers will find more value online and so will their spends be
11) Usage of internet search and browsing will increase on mobile.
12) Mobile ad revenue will remain more or less unchanged with ad ctr on mobile not showing promising numbers
13) Video consumption online will increase in Asian continent
14) Entertainment and FMCG industry spends online will increase at-least 200% to what they had in 2010 (India)

Guys, all of the above are pure interpretation of my way of observing the industry. Hope 2011 turns rocking for everyone.

Cheers

Everyone is talking about social media everywhere. No one is talking about a new added space available in a free mail service but yes, has a full page about the new social element added into it.
I was wondering what could be the impact of social media and to which extent it will reach. It is like a vegetable vendor down my building carrying 2 mobile phone. When mobile was launched, never in my dreams I wondered this could happen.
Today, I got a shock of my life when I found one of my aunt’s profile in facebook. A complete non-techie person that she is, honestly, this again was something I could never dream of.
Truly social media is turing out to be bigger than anyone expected. Ask Google, ask msn. Never would have Google wondered, that while they were trying to counter the new developments of bing, platforms like twitter and facebook will create a whole new world within their dominating domain.
This reminds me of a discussion with one of my x-reporting head on the evolving impact of these social platforms. We, the users are moving from a blind world of results to a trusted world of our own social circle. This will change big time, the way we absorb things online, will change the way we search, will change the way we surf.
No matter, everyone is bold to dive into an unknown territory for want of information, having said that, we all end up going the trusted route from there on.
That to me is the basic difference between a search engine and social platform.
What this platforms have allowed us to do is expand our network from the people we know to once we would like to know.
This again brings me to one of the articles I was reading today on the importance of your profile page on a social platform. Be it the info you have shared to your image showcased.
That says and influences a lot to users who wish to connect, learn and share moments with you.
Train moving faster than expected, maybe because am busy writing this. So off I go for the day.

Cheers
Pankaj
